The Outdoor, Nature-Based Child Care License Pilot Program is now underway in Maryland. This three-year initiative, led by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), is designed to expand access to high-quality early childhood education through outdoor, nature-based programs that offer full-day, year-round early learning experiences in outdoor, nature-based settings. This hub provides all the essential information, application materials, updates, and resources related to the pilot program. Providers selected for participation will help shape the future of outdoor early learning in Maryland by demonstrating innovative, nature-centered practices that promote children's growth and development.
Applications to participate in the pilot program must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on May 30, 2025. MSDE will review applications on a rolling basis, with priority given to programs that serve diverse populations and geographic areas across the state. We encourage providers who are passionate about outdoor education and meeting the needs of all Maryland children to explore the materials and apply early. Check back often for program updates, guidance documents, and other important information throughout the pilot period.
