Complete 2016 Kindergarten Readiness Assessment Results to be Released on December 5

State results of Maryland's 2016 Kindergarten Readiness Assessment will be released on Monday, December 5, during the Maryland State Board of Education meeting.

The assessment was administered by kindergarten teachers between the beginning of the school year and October 1st.  Items measured students' mastery of Prekindergarten skills, knowledge, and behaviors in four areas: Language and Literacy, Mathematics, Social Foundations, and Physical Well-being and Motor Development.

School districts this year chose whether to administer the assessment to all of their kindergarten students or a sample of students in each kindergarten classroom.

Initial state results show the following:

  • Forty-three percent of Maryland kindergarten students began the year demonstrating readiness (the student demonstrates the foundational skills and behaviors that prepare him/her for curriculum based on the kindergarten standards).
  • Thirty-eight percent of the students are approaching readiness (the student displays some of the foundational skills and behaviors that prepare him/her for curriculum based on the kindergarten standards).
  • Nineteen percent of the students are emerging readiness (the student displays minimal foundational skills and behaviors that prepare him/her for curriculum based on the kindergarten standards).

Both State and school district data will be released at next month’s State Board meeting.
